Pakistan
To the Honourable MP
Hello I am a Canadian citizen who would like to see Canada put diplomatic pressure on the government of Pakistan to see human rights reforms. Pakistan's infamous blasphemy laws continue to be used to settle personal scores, especially against minorities including Christians. After being accused of blasphemy a pregnant woman and her husband were thrown into the kiln where they were working and were burned to death. Their four children became orphans . Two churches in Lahore were bombed, leaving 25 people dead and wounding dozens. An estimated 700 Christian women and girls are abducted every year, and often then raped and forcibly married to Muslims. To my knowledge, Canada does not currently have any sanctions against Pakistan in spite of this horrific human rights abuse. It is time for Canada to apply all forms of sanctions to Pakistan until Pakistan changes blasphemy laws and release prisoners like Asia Bibi. Thank you.

Hello. we are Canadian citizens who are writing to ask that the Canadian government would advocate for Asia Bibi, a Christian mother who is imprisoned in Pakistan. Asia was arrested in June of 2009 and charged with Blasphemy. Her family was living in a village where they were only one of three Christian families of out of 1500 other families. In the place where she worked she was frequently pressured to convert to Islam, but she would not. One day while in a conversation with these other women about her faith, the other women began beating Asia. She was taken away and locked in a room. It was announced from a mosque loudspeaker that she would have her face blackened and be paraded through the village on a donkey. Christians informed the police and she was instead taken into custody. On November 8, 2010 she was sentenced to death and fined for blasphemy. The death sentence was later overturned but Asia remains in prison to this day. We want to see the Canadian government advocate for her release and then help her and her family immigrate to our free land. Thank you for all that you can do to see this realized.
